It’s finally here, after a long lockdown winter – Spring is here! It’s time to refresh your home and bring back that sparkle.

We’ve created the only Spring Cleaning Checklist you need this year to deep clean your house. Broken down room by room, we’ve even included the little bits everyone forgets about!

We are all busy people, we get it! It can be a daunting task to tackle the whole house in one go. Instead, try tackling one or two rooms per day or even week! Breaking the task list down in manageable chunks can even make it an enjoyable process. That’s why we’ve made this room by room checklist for you.

What is Spring Cleaning?

Spring Cleaning is exactly what is says on the tin. According to Wikipedia – ‘It’s the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house in the springtime’.  It normally happens in the first weeks of April or on the 1st April.

Why is Spring Cleaning Important?

Spring cleaning is important for our health and wellbeing as well as our home. It will help remove nasty allergens, bacteria, and hidden dirt you don’t normally get in a standard clean. These cleans also keep your house in tip-top shape, by tackling mold and mildew before it becomes an issue.

Why Do I Need A Checklist?

A checklist will keep you organised and on track, making sure nothing is left without a good clean. An organised mind is a happier one, spring cleaning takes a lot of effort so this checklist is going to help you through it.

The Spring Cleaning Checklist

Things every room needs:

• Dusting Up High – Light fixtures (lamp shades), ceiling fans
• Dusting the top of the doors
• Clean windows, window sills & window frames
• Hover curtains, blinds, rails & cobweb corners
• Wipe down skirting boards
• Test batteries in smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors
• Disinfect all handles, switches & doorknobs
• Hover, sweep or mop the floors

Entryway / Hallway / Landing

• Clean down bannisters
• Clean door frames
• Clean doormat
• Organise shoes & coats

Kitchen

• Wipe down small appliances – coffee maker, microwave…etc
• Empty the fridge and deep clean
• Clear cupboards & shelves – wipe everything down
• Hover behind the fridge & other appliances (where possible)
• Deep clean oven & stove top
• sanitise sink & clean the inner rim
• Defrost freezer, wipe down inside & out
• Clean toaster crumb tray
• Empty bins, wipe down inside & out
• Descale & clean your kettle

Bedrooms

• Organise all clothes – donate those you no longer want / need
• Dust inside & out all drawers
• Rotate mattress
• Clean bedsheets
• Hover & dust behind drawers / wardrobes
• Give each bedroom a tidy
• Disinfect & clean all kids toys

Bathrooms

• Scrub the toilet inside & out
• Scrub the sink inside & out
• Scrub the shower / bath inside & out
• organise drawers / cabinets
• Clean towels
• Clean bathmat
• Hover & dust behind everything – toilet / bath / sink / showers
• Clean the shower curtain
• Wipe down / clean taps & shower head

Living / Dining Room

• Dust everything – tv, picture frames, tables…etc
• Wash cushion covers
• Wash blankets & any sofa covers
• Wipe down all remotes
• Polish furniture
• Dust & clean blinds / curtains
• Shampoo & clean rugs / mats
• Hover sofa & chairs
• Dust & clean all china / glasses
• Polish silver

Home Office

• Dust everything – Monitors, desk, bookshelf, small appliances…etc
• Disinfect office equipment – keyboard, mouse…etc
• Recycle unneeded paper
• Hover & dust behind desk, monitors…etc
• Organise all papers, cables, books

Garage

• Declutter & donate any unwanted items
• Sweep floors
• Clean garage door & door frame
• Open up garage and let air breathe through

Laundry / Utility Room

• Clean washing machine
• Clean tumble dryer
• Clean lint trap
• Wipe down walls and appliances
• Hover & dust behind all appliances
